Gift of life
Some gifts are not forever
the gift of life is such
more like a loan
lifetime is set
and with much regret
an extension on this loan of life
is not on offer
this space we fill for such a little time
as members of the human race
this life that’s given
does amaze with heart and soul
each life ablaze with personal DNA
yet a well-designed gift such as life
is so sadly very frail
like Job I’ll tear my hair
and despair
a well loved present no one wants to return
yet return to sender we must
and with heartbreaking
weeping tears
when this present of life leaves our grasp
we cling to memories and love for eternity
